I‘ve had this book on my TBR for AGES and finally got around to reading it. Unfortunately, something about this one didn’t quite work for me, and I’m not exactly sure why. The writing was really good, and the book was fast-paced, so I had no trouble turning pages. I think it was the two main characters I struggled to really engage with, particularly Eliana. In some ways, she was fantastic, really tough and capable… but I also found her annoyingly inconsistent in her motivations, at least for the first two thirds of the book. Rielle on the other hand was less likable, but definitely more believable.
I also didn’t find any of the supporting cast overly interesting…none of them grabbed me and made me want to read more. While this sort of story is normally right up my alley, it just didn’t click with me. At this stage, while I enjoyed the read, I’m not invested enough in the story to keep going on to book 2. ⭐⭐⭐ from me
Q: Have any of you read on to the other books in this series, and if so, what did you think?
