Synopsis

Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot.

When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

Review

Loved this! In the style (sort of) of the Illuminae series, it’s smart, witty, fast-paced, and has fantastic characters.

I haven’t read a Sanderson book in years (and that was Mistborn) and I wasn’t expecting such a great, page turning, YA SciFi read. Spin is a great MC, smart and stubborn and sassy but flawed, and her AI spacehip M-Bot definitely steals the show (a bit like AIDAN, but in a different way). I inhaled this book in a couple of days and dropped other books on my tbr to go straight on to the sequel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars from me
