I’ve been wanting to read this one for quite some time, and finally got around to doing it. I’m glad I did.
Laurie Forest weaves a fantastic YA epic fantasy tale with a myriad of cultures, characters, religions, and worlds. The world building is rich and the characters are diverse. There is a lot of messaging in this book about racism, sexism, prejudice, and ignorance, and it’s not subtle. I enjoyed having such issues tackled head on via our main character Elloren, a rather innocent and naive sort who’s never questioned anything she was raised to believe, and who is suddenly thrown into a melting pot of diverse cultures when she goes to university. I’m interested to keep reading more of this one. ⭐⭐⭐ from me
