This was hands down my favourite of the Strike novels so far. Even though it was a cold case, the mystery had me hooked right from the start, and some of the scenes (especially re-tracing the victim’s steps through dark alleys) were genuinely creepy.
I was completely invested in finding out what happened to Margot Bamborough, more so than in previous Strike books. It wasn’t perfect though – for me, the book was far longer than it needed to be, and when it comes to her relationships (particularly Strike and Robin) Galbraith does too much telling vs showing for me. It leaves me not feeling super invested in their romantic relationship at all. But this is all subjective, and Galbraith is a master of weaving in layers of plot to build a rich, intriguing, story with multiple angles.
Looking forward to the next Strike novel when it comes out.
