Overall, I enjoyed this one, but I probably won’t read on in the series. It was a nice change from some of the more epic fantasy I’ve been reading recently, a futuristic Gossip Girl-type story that focuses on the lead-up to a death that you read about on the very first page.
The world building was a real strength of this book; a futuristic world where people live in massive towers that (as the title suggest) reach 1000 floors high, and are wide enough on lower levels to have parks, streets, shops and hotels. You also get the fun additions of a cast of mostly wealthy characters living lives you’d dream about with clothes and technical accessories that are pretty cool. The focus of the story is mostly on the drama of teenage friendships and relationships, with the undercurrent of knowing it’s all building up to one of these characters dying.
I didn’t successfully guess who that was until pretty close to the end of the book, so it’s not overly obvious. And while I enjoyed this book when reading, by the end I’d had my fill of teenage drama (I enjoy it to a point), and hence I’m not planning to keep going with the series right now. I might pick up book 2 in the future when I’m in the mood for this type of read again. ⭐⭐⭐ from me. If you loved Gossip Girl, I think you’ll love this book
QOTD: what do you like to read as a break from your usual genre of choice??
